The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced psychiatric nurses or Occupational therapist to join The Support and Signposting team. The support and signposting service is a new initiative and is the only one of its design with in KMPT, the service has been operational for a year and due to its success we are now recruiting substantively.

The Support and Signposting service is currently looking to recruit a Band 6 psychiatric nurse or Occupational therapist full time. This post will be based at Priority House , Maidstone, Kent. This is an exciting and challenging position for those who already have a minimum of 2 years varied post qualification experience in the field of mental health.

Our service focuses on providing short term one to one support for individuals experiencing significant emotional distress. Service users can remain in the service for up to 24 hours where staff will provide them with therapeutic, helpful and supportive interventions including anxiety management and psycho-social support and signposting to 3rd sector services.

Out of hours the service also liaises with police via the 136 service providing advice and guidance to officers and coordination of the places of safety. future plans for the Support and Signposting Service include providing support to the Single Point of Access team out of hours, full training and support is provided for these roles

As the nurse/clinician with in the support and signposting service the main elements of the role focus on efficient running of shifts, managing referrals and working collaboratively with referring services , independently making sound clinical decisions, collaborative working with service users to promote engagement and to facilitate an optimum level of independence and self-management. Our expectation is that you will endeavour to establish therapeutic relationships within which to address recovery goals in order to help service users to gain access to a range of resources and services to facilitate involvement and connection with the local community.

You will have a strong sense of initiative and an excellent team working ability. Effective communication skills and self-governance are required, although you will also be offered regular clinical and managerial supervision to support you. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to independently make referrals and support service users to link in with third sector services including local councils and benefits agencies. Induction. KMPT provides comprehensive Induction programme to support new employees. This ranges from 2 days to 4 weeks dependent on role (not always consecutive days). You may need to travel across site includes Canterbury, Maidstone and Dartford.

Probation Period . New employees external to KMPT are subject to a six month probationary period.
